Allied Health Assistants work directly with clients to implement allied health programs. They may work under the supervision of physiotherapists, dieticians, podiatrists, speech therapists and occupational therapists.

Mayfield Education offers Allied Health Assistant Certificate IV course in Australia that delivers specialisation in physiotherapy, occupational therapy specialisations, community rehabilitation and introduction to podiatry and speech pathology.

Applicant must:

Be 18 years of age or over

Attend a course information session at Mayfield Education

Complete a pre-course assessment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education and a pre-training interview

Have basic computer skills and access to a personal computer device including internet to enable connectivity with learning resources.

Have COVID 19 vaccination history

To obtain the full HLT43015 – Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance qualification, students must satisfactorily complete Sixteen (16) units of competency. The course is made up of seven (7) core units and nine (9) elective units that includes the mandatory elective skill set in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, podiatry and in addition to providing an introduction to speech pathology.

PHYSIOTHERAPY specialisation

  • HLTAHA003 – Deliver and monitor a client-specific physiotherapy program
  • HLTAHA005 – Support the delivery and monitoring of physiotherapy programs for mobility


  • HLTAHA010 – Assist with the development and maintenance of client functional status
  • HLTAHA016 – Support the fitting of assistive equipment


  • HLTAHA004 – Support client independence and community participation
  • HLTAHA024 – Work within a community rehabilitation environment

Other electives

  • HLTAHA006 – Assist with basic foot hygiene
  • HLTAHA012 – Support the development of speech and communication skills

This course takes approximately twelve months.

The delivery mode is comprised of face-to-face, online learning and 120 hours of work placement.

Classes run 2 day a fortnight from 09:30-15:30 hrs.

Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. There are continuous assessment tasks throughout the course which have been designed to consolidate core knowledge and skill prior to final assessment. Tasks include practical exercises, written tests and completion of learning workbooks. Final competency assessment occurs in the workplace.

Nationally Recognised Certificate and Transcript of Results showing completion of full Certificate HLT43015 – Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance qualification indicating the completed stream.

If the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units where competency has been attained.

Additional units may be undertaken to complete the requirements for rehabilitation. Some credit may be granted towards tertiary studies in an Allied Health field.
