This qualification reflects the role of an enrolled nurse working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse. This qualification covers the application of skills and knowledge required to provide nursing care for people across the health sector and at all stages of life.

Students entering the course must meet the required entry criteria, educational standards and administrative requirements as per Mayfield’s Student Entry and Administration Policy and Procedure.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Have declared any pre-existing medical or other conditions which may impact on their ability to undertake the course and obtain gainful employment in the vocational area of choice as an enrolled nurse.
  • Have a current email address and mobile phone number for contact and communication.
  • Have basic computer skills and access to a personal computer device including internet to enable connectivity with learning resources.
  • Have COVID 19 vaccination history.
  • Be able to provide below checks 8 weeks prior to the first clinical placement:
    • A current and clear national police check.
    • A current and clear Working with Children’s Check.
    • Healthcare category A immunisation record including flu vaccination.
  • Attended a mandatory pre course information session that informs the nature of the course and the work related to the vocational course including its physical and psychological rigor.
  • Submit a course application form through website, email, post or in person.
  • Complete a pre course assessment via Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education.
  • Provide evidence of meeting at least one of the three Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language skills registration requirement. Click here for the English language requirements form.
  • Attend a 1:1 pre training interview to confirm an adequate command of English comprehension and verbal articulation.

Classes runs Face to face 2 days/ week

Expected to undertake directed online learning for each unit.

Mandatory 400 hours of clinical placement across variety of health care settings in Victoria. To participate in clinical placement students are required to provide current clear police check, clear working with children’s check and immunisation records (students may need to full fill any additional requirements requested by the placement host).

Intake 2 2022

  • Commencement date: Monday 14 November 2022
  • Day of attendance: Monday and Tuesday (Please note: an additional day will be allocated on timetable if a public holiday will fall on any of the above days).

Intake 1 2023

  • Commencement date: Tuesday 14 March 2023
  • Day of attendance: Tuesdays and Thursday (Please note: an additional day will be allocated on timetable if a public holiday will fall on any of the above days).

Application Closing Date
2 weeks before Commencement Day (Late applications may be considered).

Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study in a variety of ways.

Some examples include question/answers, journal writing, case studies, group presentation, assignments, role play, on-line learning, self-paced learning packages, multiple choice questions and practical/ simulation.

Graduates receive a Nationally Recognised qualification.

Graduates with this qualification are eligible to apply for Registration with the Australian Health Professionals Registration Authority AHPRA, as an Enrolled Nurse.

Student may be eligible for recognition of prior learning when applying for the Bachelor of Nursing.

Some of the units completed assist in the upgrade courses leading to Advanced Diploma.
