Certificate III in Health Services Assistance qualification provides a foundation to a range of factual, practical and technical knowledge to provide assistance to health care professionals in providing care to patients/clients. This course will provide you with the technical and interpersonal skills to work under the supervision of professional health care personnel.

Applicant must:

Be 18 years of age or over

Attend a course information session at Mayfield Education

Complete a pre course assessment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education and a pre training interview

Have basic computer skills and access to a personal computer device including internet to enable connectivity with learning resources.

Have COVID 19 vaccination history

To obtain the full Certificate III in Health Services Assistance – HLT33115, students must satisfactorily complete a total fifteen (15) units of competency. The course is made up of seven (7) core units and eight (8) elective units that are specific to the relevant stream chosen.

  • HLTAAP001 – Recognise healthy body systems
  • HLTINF001 – Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • HLTWHS001 – Participate in workplace health and safety
  • BSBMED301 – Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
  • BSBWOR301 – Organise personal work priorities and development

  • CHCCCS026 – Transport Individuals
  • CHCCCS012 – Prepare and maintain beds
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

General Stream

Operating Theatre Technician Stream
  • HLTTHE001 – Handle and care for operating theatre equipment

  • HLTTHE003– Provide intra-operative equipment and technical support
  • HLTHSS007– Handle medical gasses safely
Assisting in Nursing work in Acute Care Stream
  • CHCCCS020 – Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
  • CHCCCS002 – Assist with movement
  • HLTAIN002 – Provide non-client contact support in an acute care environment
  • HLTAIN001 – Assist with nursing care in an acute care environment

This course takes approximately nine to twelve months.

The delivery mode is comprised of face to face, online learning and 80 hours of work placement.

Classes run 1 day a fortnight from 09:30-15:30 hrs.

Intake 1 2023: 17 February (Friday)

Intake 2 2023: 1 June (Thursday)

Application Closing Date 
2 weeks before Orientation Day.

Late applications will be considered for the next intake if received after the closing date.

Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. At Mayfield we have engaging ways of learning and assessment which includes Journal Writing, Case Studies, Group Presentation, Assignments, Role Play, On-line Learning, self-paced learning packages, short answer and multi-choice questions.

Nationally Recognised Certificate and Transcript of Results showing completion of full Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT33115 qualification indicating the relevant stream completed.

If the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units where competency has been attained.

Once completed, this course leads to an entry to HLT47515- Cert IV in Operating Theatre Technician, though it is not a prerequisite to undertake Cert IV in Operating Theatre Technician course.
