Course Overview

This course reflects the role of allied health assistants who provide assistance to allied health professionals under guidelines.

Allied Health Assistants work under the delegation and supervision (direct, indirect or remote in accordance with the allied health assistant’s scope of practice) of Allied Health Professionals and assist in identifying circumstances and risks and reporting issues.

Entry Criteria

Students entering this course must meet the required entry criteria, educational standards and administrative requirements as per Mayfield Education’s Student Entry and Administration Policy and Procedure.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Watch the course information online.
  • Complete a pre-course assessment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education and a pre training interview.
  • People studying this program will need access to a personal computer device and basic computer skills, including the ability to:
    • Create, save and edit Microsoft Office documents such as Microsoft Word.
    • Access and search the Internet.
    • Download and save documents from a variety of websites.
    • Record, save and upload a video using a smart device such as a mobile, laptop, or iPad.
    • Upload files and images onto the Learning Management System
    • Access Dropbox links
  • Have a COVID-19 vaccination history
  • Be able to provide below checks 8 weeks into the course:
    • A current and clear National Police Check
    • A current and clear Working with Children Check
    • ‘Healthcare category A’ immunisation records including flu vaccination listed on the Department website

    Successful completion of common units completed under either HLT33021 – Cert III in Allied Health Assistance or HLT43021 – Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance course will be granted as a Credit Transfer towards another program.

    Delivery

    This course takes approximately fourteen (14) months to complete.

    Study load  20-25hrs per week.

    The course includes face-to-face learning, online learning and 120 hours of work placement.

    Classes run 1 day a fortnight from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm.

    Assessment
    Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. At Mayfield, we have engaging ways of learning and assessment which include journal writing, case studies, group presentations, assignments, role play, online learning, self-paced learning packages, short answer, and multi-choice questions.
    Award

    This course is a nationally recognised qualification. Upon successful completion of all course requirements, Mayfield Education will award you a separate nationally recognised qualification for

    HLT33021 – CERTIFICATE III IN ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANCE
    and
    HLT43021 – CERTIFICATE IV IN ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANCE

    If the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units where competency has been attained.

    Pathways
    This course enables you to apply for work as an Allied Health Assistant. This course contains units that can be used as credits in a large range of health-related courses including technicians, aged care, community services nursing etc. This course provides you with credits towards other health care courses.
