Our course will help you be better equipped to manage the core elements in a sterilisation department, including implementing infection prevention and control, cleaning and disinfecting reusable medical devices, managing sterile stock, and monitoring the equipment and quality of the cleaning, sterilisation and packaging processes and leadership skills.

Entry Criteria

Students entering the course must meet the required entry criteria, educational standards and administrative requirements as per Mayfield Education’s Student Entry and Administration Policy and Procedure.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Must have watched the course information online.
  • Attend and complete a pre course assessment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LNN) robot on site at Mayfield Education.
  • Attending a pre-training interview at Mayfield Education.
  • People studying this program will need an access to a personal computer device and basic computer skills, including the ability to:

– Create, save and edit Microsoft office documents (including Word, Excel)

– Access and search the Internet.

– Download and save documents from a variety of websites.

– Record, save and upload a video using a smart device such as mobile, laptop, iPad.

– Upload files and images onto the Learning Management System

– Access Dropbox links.

  • Have COVID 19 vaccination history.
  •  Be able to provide the below checks within the first 8 weeks of the course:

– A current and clear National Police Check.

– A current and clear Working with Children Check.

– Healthcare category A immunisation record including flu vaccination. These are listed on the Department Website.

Training Program

To obtain the full HLT47015 Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services qualification, students must satisfactorily complete fifteen (15) units of competency. The course is made up of Eleven (11) core units and four (4) pre-selected elective units.

  • policies and procedures
  • HLTSTE001 Clean and disinfect reusable medical devices.
  • HLTSTE002 Inspect and pack reusable medical devices.
  • HLTSTE003 Sterilise loads.
  • HLTSTE004 Manage sterile stock.
  • HLTSTE005 Care for reusable medical devices
  • HLTSTE007 Monitor and maintain cleaning and sterilisation equipment.
  • HLTSTE008 Monitor quality of cleaning, Sterilisation and packaging processes.
  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety.
  • HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely.

 

Electives

  • BSBWOR404 Develop personal work priorities.
  • BSBHRM415 Co-ordinate recruitment and onboarding
  • BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately.
  • HLTSTE006 Chemically disinfects reusable medical devices.
Delivery
  • This course takes ten to twelve months to complete.
  • Study load 20-25hrs per week.
  • The course includes both face to face and online learning, plus 40 hours of work placement.
  • Classes run 1 day a fortnight from 9.30am to 3.30pm at our Mayfield Education campus in Hawthorn.

Assessment

Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. At Mayfield we have engaging ways of learning and assessment which includes journal writing, case studies, group presentation, assignments, role play, online learning, self-paced learning packages, short answer, and multi-choice questions.

Award

Graduates will receive a nationally recognised certificate and transcript of results showing completion of the full Certificate HLT47015 CERTIFICATE IV IN STERILIASATION SERVICES qualification.

If the full course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any units where competency has been attained.
