This short course has been designed to provide nationally recognised and accredited units of competency in assisting with basic foot hygiene.

This unit will provide the participants with the skills and knowledge required to assist with basic foot hygiene under the direction of a podiatrist, including skin and nail care and applying dressings, padding and cushioning.

Health care workers with an interest in foot care and podiatry

Health workers who care for the elderly and people with a disability.

Those with high-risk feet who seek to prevent complications from sports and other injuries.

Health care worker who can perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 120 hours of work

The training program is focusing on the unit HLTAHA006 – Assist with basic foot hygiene.

Participants will be required to complete all the pre course application requirements for enrolment prior to the unit commencement. This unit requires 60 nominal hours of training and assessment in total.

Participants will be provided with a number of learning and assessment resources and will need to undertake a portion of self-directed learning via the Mayfield Education Learning Management System (ItsLearning).

Participants will need to complete the required assessment tasks and attain competency to meet the requirement of this unit.

During this training program participant will learn about:
  • Preparing for basic foot hygiene
  • Performing basic foot hygiene
  • Applying padding and cushioning prescribed by the supervising podiatrist
  • Complying with supervisory requirements
  • Cleaning and storing equipment
  • Relevant documentation

This course is conducted by Registered Podiatrists. The course is designed to incorporate a blended delivery model.

Participants will require to attend 2 days face to face workshop at Mayfield Education from 9:30am to 3:30pm
