Course Overview

Learn the skills and knowledge required to administer and monitor medicine and intravenous (IV) therapy, including calculating dosage requirements, reading and applying written instructions from an authorised prescriber, assessing the person for medicine effectiveness and side effects, and responding to an allergic pharmacological reaction.

This unit relates to enrolled nursing work carried out in consultation and collaboration with registered nurses and under supervisory arrangements aligned to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) regulatory authority legislative requirements.

Course Details

Entry Criteria

Students entering the course must meet the required entry criteria, educational standards and administrative requirements as per Mayfield Education’s Student Entry and Administration Policy and Procedure.

Applicant must:

  • Be registered as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and be able to provide evidence of the current registration.
  • Currently be employed and practicing clinically.
  • People studying this unit will need an access to a personal computer device and basic computer skills, including the ability to:

–  Create, save and edit Microsoft office documents (including Word, Excel)

– Access and search the Internet.

– Download and save documents from a variety of websites.

–  Record, save and upload a video using a smart device such as mobile, laptop, iPad.

– Upload files and images onto the Learning Management System

– Access Dropbox links.

  • Have COVID 19 vaccination history.
  •  Be able to provide below checks prior to the clinical placement:

– A current and clear National Police Check.

– A current and clear Working with Children’s Check.

– Healthcare category A immunisation record including flu vaccination.

Duration

12-16 Weeks subject to placement availability.

Study Mode
  • Blended mode of study
  • 2 hours Orientation
  • Theory modules – Online self-directed learning (10 weeks)
  • Simulation – Face to face (5-day workshop – Monday to Friday)
  • Workshops run from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
  • Undertake relevant assessment tasks.
  •  Professional experience placement – 40 hours (1 week- full time)
